No, you don’t need any specific experience or prior knowledge. Of course, it would be advantageous if you speak English or another language and have attended a first aid course, but this is not mandatory. What is important is that you enjoy working with people.

In order to prepare you properly for your position, we will organize a hybrid workshop in which you can participate either physically in Berlin or online. For all those who are interested, we will also offer a free first aid training. We will announce the dates via our mailing list, which you are automatically subscribed to if you have registered on this page.

On the day of the parade, a final briefing will take place in the morning to discuss any current requirements of the authorities or possible route changes.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

Your contact person is our safety officer Martin. He takes care of the coordination and planning for all volunteers. You can contact him at safety@ravetheplanet.com.

What if I can’t help after all?

Of course, that would be a pity, because we really need all the support we can get. But sometimes things don’t turn out as planned and therefore you can cancel at any time without giving reasons.

But it is very important for our planning that you inform us, so that we can fill your position again. Please send a message to safety@ravetheplanet.com.

Am I automatically a team member after registration?

Yes, because we are happy about every helping hand. After registering, please check your profile for completeness and upload a portrait photo of yourself. We will probably need this for the crew badges.

If you have registered for only one category, you will be assigned to that one. If you have selected more than one category, we will assign you to the one that needs to be staffed most urgently.

When will I receive more information about operational planning?

You will receive all dates for workshops and first aid trainings in advance by email. Detailed information about timings, contact persons, meeting points and tasks on the day of the parade will be sent to you no later than 3 weeks before.

In order to keep you informed about all other important information in advance, we will send you email updates.

What does “volunteer” mean and what are my benefits?

Volunteering means doing something for the greater good on a non-profit basis. It is fun to work together on a great project and to know that you are contributing something good to society. Everyone can contribute with their own special skills, meet new people, make friends and be part of a community. As a volunteer at the parade you also support the goals we are demonstrating for: Peace, protection of electronic music culture and the recognition of its cultural and social achievements. Through your commitment, you create lasting benefit to society as a whole.

The association Deutsches Ehrenamt e.V. defines the term “Ehrenamt” (eng. honorary office or volunteering) as follows:

“Volunteering means doing work for an organization willingly and without remuneration. Volunteering itself is characterized by a wide variety of areas in which people can become active and do good. People’s motivation to get involved in society can be traced back to a variety of reasons.” (Orig. German source)

Will training be provided?

To prepare you properly for your position, we are organizing a hybrid workshop that you can attend either physically in Berlin or online. For all those interested, we will also offer a free first aid training. The dates will be announced via our mailing list, which you are automatically subscribed to after registering on this page.

Do I have to be of legal age to volunteer?

It depends on what area you want to help. Yes, if you want to support the route safety or the awareness team. If you want to help our donation team or the eco team, you are welcome to join us even if you are under the age of 18.

Why does Rave The Planet count on volunteers?

A demonstration thrives on participation. Without the help of volunteers, we are not able to hold the parade.

Like any other non-profit organization, Rave The Planet needs the support of people and institutions who want to get things moving. For a demonstration in the dimension of our parade, it needs hundreds of helping hands.

All of our projects are largely funded by donations, which so far have been barely enough to cover the core costs. In order to be able to set up permanent, secure funding, we need to establish an even stronger foundation and strengthen public trust in Rave The Planet. We are far from being a sure-fire success and still in the early stages of our work. But with your help we could take a big step forward. Thank you!

What qualifications do I need to meet?

No special qualifications are necessary. The important thing is that you are communicative and enjoy working with people.

What are the volunteer tasks at the parade?

At the parade itself, there are currently three areas for which we need the support of volunteers: Route safety, awareness and fundraisers.

In addition, there will be a big clean-up in the Tiergarten the day after. For this we put together an eco team to clean the park from trash. In 2022, with 60 volunteers and the support of BSR Kehrenbuerger, we were able to deep-clean a total of 170 hectares of park space, leaving the Tiergarten cleaner than it was before the parade. Rave the planet = SAVE THE PLANET.

What to pay attention to in the float design?

Each float must clearly and visibly integrate the demonstration motto “Music Is The Answer”, the logo of Rave The Planet and at least one of the political demands from our list into the design. It must be clearly recognizable that the goals and demands of the demonstration are supported.

Be creative and pay attention to waste avoidance and environmental protection. Use e.g. upcycled materials, avoid unnecessary plastic components, look for environmentally friendly or biodegradable materials (pay attention to fire regulations!), avoid the unnecessary use of plastic cable ties etc. Consider how you can reuse or recycle the design elements after the demonstration.

What to look for in the line up?

Each float must bring its own headlining act. All other artists should be put together in a way that best represents you and your project. However, please pay attention to quality in any case.

What is important in the float application?

We are looking for diversity, creativity, originality and authenticity. Whether you’re applying for a small vehicle or a big flatbed truck, it doesn’t matter. We really just want to see that you’ve put some thought into the line-up, the design of the float and of course it is important that the message of the demonstration is clearly conveyed.

Therefore we attach great importance to the creative design of a float. Please attach design drafts to your application for approval. Hand-drawn sketches are just as welcome as 3D renderings. These will be treated confidentially and will only be viewed by our crew and the cultural advisory board for the selection of participants.

Since we take our responsibility towards the environment and future generations seriously, it is also important that you include the topics of environmental protection and sustainability in your float concept.

In which period can I apply?

For the 2024 Parade, the application period runs from November 1st, 2023, through January 30th, 2024.

Why ist the number of floats limited?

The limitation and selection of the participating floats is based on curatorial intent and desired organically growth of the parade. It is our goal to represent the electronic music culture in the greatest possible diversity and creativity. Therefore, the submitted applications* will be reviewed and evaluated by a float committee. Afterwards all applicants will receive a notification. (Estimated in the middle of February 2024).

The float committee consists of people who are actively involved in or closely connected to electronic music culture, along with the core team of Rave The Planet. The float committee consists of people who are active in or strongly connected to electronic music culture, as well as the core team of Rave The Planet. Through this composition, different perspectives and expertises come together to ensure the most diverse selection of floats possible.

*Only applications with all necessary information will be considered during the selection process. Therefore, please double-check to ensure that all required details are accurate and complete.

Why are only cultural workers allowed?

The Rave The Planet Parade a political demonstration – out of the scene and for the scene. We demonstrate “for the preservation of electronic music culture and the recognition of its cultural and social achievements” and peace.

With the demonstration we want to represent the diversity of electronic music culture and provide a platform for cultural creators to make their needs and demands public. Additionally, with this rule we want to make sure that our culture and the parade will not be used for commercial purposes.

Non-culturally people or other organizations can still participate, e.g. by sponsoring. If you are interested, please contact us directly: info@ravetheplanet.com.

Political parties are generally excluded from participating with a float.

Who Can Apply For A Float?

Only cultural workers and creators are accepted to present a float (music truck) at the Rave The Planet Parade. These are e.g. clubs, festivals, organizers, collectives and party crews, record labels, booking agencies, artists etc..

Furthermore, you already have to be working for at least two years and have at least one completed project to prove it.

What are the goals for Rave The Planet?

We want to ensure that the electronic music culture is protected, maintained, presented, promoted and further developed, and also to have the electronic dance music culture recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. We also aim at having an official public holiday introduced for our culture and celebrating this with a living tradition of our electronic dance music: a new parade in Berlin that will carry forth the spirit of the original Love Parade.

When was Rave The Planet founded?

We’ve been around officially since July 2019, but the founders actually got together in mid-2018. We co-curated a temporary exhibition titled “30 Years of the Loveparade” as en extra to the nineties berlin exhibition. In the process, the team realized that they all seemed to share the same passion for techno and the electronic dance music culture. One thing led to another and finally the idea to found Rave The Planet was born.

What exactly is a gGmbH?

According to German law, a “gGmbH” is a limited liability company which uses its income for non-profit purposes. Its non-profit status is indicated by the small “g” (short for German „gemeinnützig“ = charitable or non-profit) in front of the abbreviation “GmbH” and defined by the German Tax Code (ger. = Abgabenordnung, AO).

Non-profit status applies if the purpose of a corporation (such as an association or a limited liability company) is to “selflessly promote the general public in material, spiritual or ethical terms”. (Section 52/1 AO). A gGmbH is also subject to the laws on limited liability companies and the German Commercial Code.

🌳 Eco Team

One of the biggest problems with demonstrations and events are the huge masses of waste they generate. We take our responsibility towards this very seriously. Already at the parade we make sure to reduce the waste with sustainable concepts like measures for waste reduction or prevention. On the Sunday after, we additionally organize the “Rave The Planet Parade – CLEANUP DAY”, where the Tiergarten park will be cleaned properly.

For decades, the Berlin Tiergarten has been the place where we ravers lived the dream of a better world. That’s why we want to pay our respect to this special spot and honor and care for it with this common activity. ?

🤝 Awareness Team

Awareness means to take care of each other. We want everyone at the parade to feel good, welcome and safe. Our awareness team encourages respectfulness, acts in a de-escalating manner, watches out for discrimination or personal boundary violations and helps those affected.

🦺 Route Safety

The route safety helps to ensure that the demonstration runs smoothly.Basic tasks are to make sure that all requirements are met, to coordinate the distance between the floats, to guide participants back to the route or to collect glass bottles.
